A film beyond films
2 of 2 found this helpful There is no film on the African condition like 500 Years later which not only does justice to the legacy of enslavement by hitting each issue on the head but weaves them together in a seamless interconnected theme
If ever there was a film that could be called the greatest social African Diaspora documentary this would be it. As never have I seen one body of work which chronicles in a cohesive way the collective history of African people in the Diaspora in context and with dignity. Not only does 500 Years Later document it lays pathways for solutions to the crisis, the film takes responsibility for not only being a mirror on a problem but more than that. This is why it is more than a film. And interesting enough even as just a film it is an amazing piece of visual work, with cinematography rich in African culture, the techniques employed expand the visual expectation and build solid arguments beyond emotion but with full emotion and African aesthetic .
It would be very hard for anyone to watch this documentary and not come away changed in some way. It is not possible to watch this documentary and say “I didn’t understand” or it was clear. Or it was incomplete. It is amazing how the directors (Owen ‘Alik Shahadah) and producers (M.K. Asante, Jr) were able to with 108 minutes do so much justice to a 500 Years old problem. And not only do justice but espouse the best of so many things in one film. For me watching this film I know that there was divine guidance because it isn’t possible to get a piece of cinema history of this calibre by mere human action.
We all remember the great movies, but this one I think will always standout because of one thing its absolute complete story in one body of work. Roots tackled history; Africans in America did just that. But 500 YEARS LATER is like Roots + Sankofa + Africans in America, it touches on so much without labour and fluidly works from topic to topic in the most cinematic overview I have ever seen. God Bless.

Good product, fast service to South Africa.
I have not had any issues, using it in a GoPro Black 3+. I got it because I needed a fast card and did not want to take a chance with no-name or fake products which say they are 32 until you use them. So San Disk is a name I can trust and the price was very good.

Restoration was not the best
I am just reviewing the restore as we all know the God father is a titan among films. It would be blasphemy to critique such a classic. Anyway the wedding scene was the first to show a problem - hard to imagine but proper blow out. Over exposed and poorly graded. I was shocked, how could you restore a film and leave over exposure like this. I was not impressed @ all with the job. I will compare it with my DVD version. I don't think Blu ray was worth it, especially if Blu ray cost more. P. S. I work in film and do a lot of color correction and grading.
