Why is this remote better than the one that probably came with your DirecTV
1 of 1 found this helpful For some reason, the standard remote provided with the Genie receivers comes as infrared (IR) only. These remotes have both IR and radio frequency (RF) capability. Fairly easily set up on the DirecTV menu, selecting RF mode means that the remote doesn't have to be pointed directly at the receiver. The RF mode also operates at longer distance than IR.
Except for the red sticker on the plastic packaging, I don't know how one can determine whether the existing remote is IR-only, but it probably is. Why DirecTV supplies different models that appear idenrical is a mystery to me, but I'm not in charge of these things.
These new IR/RF remotes are incredibly inexpensive and the supplied batteries are fresh. Even without the RF capability, sometimes having a second remote in different parts of the room can be handy, notwithstanding the possible dangers of dueling remote battles. OR - a new remote is easier than trying to get the peanut butter out of your existing remote.

I have purchased based several of these ...
I have purchased based several of these from Dan's. They are all brand new and test perfect. Yes, they are NOS but exactly what I need. 250GB is more than adequate for a boot disk.

Small but mighty
3 of 3 found this helpful For years I used insect "zappers". These had a two-year warranty, but they always crapped out long before that. They used rather expensive ultraviolet (UV) fluorescent tubes, which did NOT last. And an insect flying into the thing was electrocuted and sprayed out in pieces.
So I bought one of these a couple of years ago (this is my second). The first one is still operational on my front porch. This one, the neweer, is working indoors. Insects attracted to the UV light source are sucked in by the fan and deposited in the trap where they dry out and die. Very sad, I suppose, but much better that disease-carrying insects should die than that I should suffer some nasty disease or other.
This device is also much smaller than an insect "zapper" so it doesn't really become the focal point of the entire living room. I am quite pleased with this Dynatrap - the smallest model they make - because it just plain WORKS.
