The Bull Terrier of Shovels
1 of 2 found this helpful It's adaptable, capable, stout, strong, and versatile. There’s beauty in its no nonsense simplicity. It performs ever task better than expected, because it’s over-built for what most people will purchase it for. If you want a dainty, hide-away, single-purpose digging tool, this shovel isn’t for you.

Made like they used to
3 of 3 found this helpful That old adage of 'they don't make them like they used to' rings true for wool blankets it seemed. I looked everywhere for good ol' fashioned wool blankets, because they are flat out the best for rugged outdoor situations. All I could find were inexpensive knock-offs that were either very thin or were made with a lower percentage of wool ( 80%). It became obvious that I would have to spend a bit more for the quality I was looking for. As it turned out, I only spent a few dollars more.
I should mention that I happen to own two authentic (old fashioned) wool blankets. One is a genuine military issue blanket (acquired by my father in Vietnam), and one is a gray 'emergency' blanket (acquired by my grand-dad during a natural disaster). I can tell you that the quality of my new blankets (I bought two) are comparable to the standards of my 'authentic' wool blankets, and they are actually much softer.
I recommend machine washing and line-drying them at least once before use. This may sound silly, but I line-dried mine indoors, so I wouldn't capture pollen in the fibers. The blankets come in a see-through zippered bag, which I saved to keep them in for long-term storage. These are excellent wool blankets at an excellent price, and they are as good, if not better, than the ones they used to make.

A Hult Bruk in Hultafors Clothing
The problem with trying to choose between the top four brand names of Swedish-made axes is that they are all fine axes. Hultafors axes fall smack dab in the lower-middle price range of the top four brand names, and the only thing setting it apart from the top shelf brands is the quality (grain alignment) of the handle. Not that the quality of the Hultafors handles are bad, it's just that they are not consistently perfect. The axe head is a different story and that is where you'll find a hidden gem.
While doing your product research, you may have come across a company by the name of Hults Bruk, and if you dug deep enough, you learned that the company has been forging axes since 1697. You may have also picked up on the fact that their manufacturing techniques have an American connection. The real eye-opener is the fact that Hults Bruk is owned by Hultafors and that Hults Bruk manufactures axe heads for Hultafors-branded axes!
Compare the Hultafors Classic Hunting Axe to the Hults Bruk 'Aneby' axe, and you'll find that they are identical. Seriously... go to their respective web sites and compare them. Pay particular attention to the head stamps, because that is where you will find a little surprise. See it? Yep... the quality and performance (and legacy) of a Hults Bruk at a Hultafors price. I own three Hultafors axes, and this was this is why I chose them.
