Kaffe Fassett's Simple Shapes Spectacular Quilts
Kaffe Fassett is the ultimate creative inspiration for my continued artistic lust. In this book Kaffe shares and elaborates his artistic flare for collecting shapes and colors for fabric design. These patterns become feats of art that I might like to make myself. I at least, WANT to make them. To me, each of his quilt tells it's story.
From beginning to end. I love the photographs in the book, always displaying the finished quilt in a beautiful, befitting atmosphere. I, now scan neighborhoods, places of interest and small nooks for places to show off my finished quilts. Instructions to make the quilts are thorough and clear. Not simple, because these quilts are not simple.
I am 3/4 the way to completion of the "Haze Kilim" quilt pattern in this book. When I started this quilt I really expected to make it the same cloud of color and flow that his, Kaffe's, quilt showed. His main fabric choice wasn't readily available, so I chose solid colors of pin whale cordorory. I don't have the cloud of colors I dreamed of but one sees mountains, vases and pedestols. Another thing I like, is that the finished quilt seems not to be gender specific. Anyone would love to have this finished quilt in their living space.
I purchased 'this' copy of Kaffe Fassett's Simple Shapes as a gift. I have had my own copy for about a year. I knew it was a wonderful book. I saw it on Ebay, at what I knew to be a good price and couldn't resist.
At this time I am sharing the book with my Mom, who introduced me to quilting. I will eventually send this same copy to my sister-in-law who quilts, but hasn't given herself the gift of any Kaffe Fassett's books. :(
It was a winner for me.
