Yes, it's worth it.
I made an emergency repair by making a temporary plate out of sheet metal. It took me about 2 hours. It didn't cover everything but got me through. This plate fits perfectly, installed in less than 15 minutes and completely replaces the plastic cover. This is a light, we'll-made part. The measurements and holes are spot on.

Required "option"
It is a Sony proprietary add-on for the FS7. If you want time code in or out, you have no choice. Likewise, if you want to record Pro-res in camera, you have no choice. Another example of Sonly looking out for themselves and not the customer.
