Riveting account of Patton' secret mission in WWII: 'Task Force Baum'

This book was highly recommended to me by the historians at the World War II Museum in New Orleans, after they had researched my father's service in the 10th Armored Infantry Battalion. My father was lucky enough to survive the Battle of the Bulge, apparently luckier still to have been wounded just prior to the controversial and ill-fated Hammelburg Raid, which the historian pointed out, may well have saved his life. This book was absolutely riveting. Once I began reading, I couldn't put it down. No novel could be more exciting, action-filled, or more tragic. One of the co-authors is the courageous Major Abe Baum himself, 10th AIB, the reluctant but dutiful leader chosen by General Patton to liberate 300 POWs--including Patton's own son-in-law--from a prison camp near Hammelburg Germany. This book forever altered my view of Patton, whom my father continues to hold in the highest esteem to this day. Hard to fathom why there has never been a movie based on this debacle, as truth is indeed much stranger than fiction.
