Black Ivory is Golden Ivory!
Black Ivory is one of the greatest "hidden gem" R&B groups of the 1970's and 80's. This CD even features the dreamy instrumental "Daily News" among many smooth soul/R&B transition tracks of such elegant quality. Those gentle bongos and smooth bass guitar really signify a great moment in music time that the generation of today couldn't take lessons from! Black Ivory topped the disco charts with their monster "underground" track "Mainline" in 1979 and always recorded with such classy sounds. They even had a comeback album in 2011 that is not to be missed. In a sentence, if you are not familiar with Black Ivory, get familiar - you won't regret it! Leon was definitely "Out To Catch!"
Mr. Haywood's discography may have begun in 1966, but he definitely saved the best for last, as his 1983 offering, "It's Me Again" (Casablanca Records) was a definitive "hit me up" album. With "Keep It In The Family" and the standout ballad "I'll Always Be Around" in juxtaposition to the blisteringly infectious dance track "I'm Out To Catch" (Karen Roberts on great vocal), this CD is a MUST for serious collectors of old school R&B /disco. I had to order this from overseas, but it is so worth it (I had the "I'm Out To Catch 12" disco single years ago, and now I have the entire CD). Dr. Paul A. Every Time I Hear It I Go Wild!
Released on August 28, 1967, Stevie Wonder's album, I was Made To Love Her, is an early tour de force from the the master songwriter. This album has his title track hit among great soul and R&B covers of "Respect", "My GIrl", and "Can I Get A Witness?" But the wonder himself saves his masterpiece for the very end, the Sylvia Moy, Henry Cosby and Stevie Wonder-penned "Every Time I See You I Go Wild", a track that was covered 11 years later (in 1978) by the R&B/disco group (out of Detroit, Michigan - Stevie Wonder's state of birth as well) Brainstorm. And they did it wonderfully brilliant justice! I had never heard Stevie's original, and now I have, and it is one of the few times in life that I like both Stevie's and Brainstorm's just as much as the other. If you are a fan of "wonderland", do not miss this album in your collection. It is an early-year essential. Trust me - you'll go wild! Dr. Paul A.
