All But My Life. by Gerda Weissman Klein
Having watched an interview and discovering I lived in the same city as this remarkable woman, I felt I had to read the her recollections of this horror of history that so few now remember.
The book is articulate and her memory so vivid as to transport the reader to that terrible time. I found myself questioning the reason, the mentality and, of course, the humanity of her captors.
It is a story of great strength, great cruelty and an incredible will to survive during the darkest days of Nazi dominated Europe.
