Smile (1990, VHS)
This item was actually purchased as a gift. My Dad LOVES this film!!! It is a great dark comedy and spoof of one of American's good old institutions...beauty pageants.
The film was a used VHS format with some use, it was in excellent condition and was from a private collection. It arrived in excellent condition packaged well and ready to use. I scanned the product on my VCR but actually did not view the entire film at length, as it was a gift and was sent to my Dad.
I saw this film years ago and found it to be very hilarious. It stars Barbara Feldon, Bruce Dern and much younger appearances by Annette O'Toole and Melanie Griffith (before plastic surgery and breast implants). The story is campy, silly and sort of dark, but you can't stop laughing at the absurdity of it. This item is available on DVD now, but I selected this format because my Dad uses a VCR. I know he will enjoy this and I loved finding it for him. If you want to laugh at the absolute absurdity of beauty pangeants and see the behind the scenes politics...this is a film for you. It has references to the Jaycees too, so might be a good one for the Jaycee in you life. Excellent film...very funny and one I know will entertain my Dad.

Sparkling with sensuality
1 of 1 found this helpful This version of Tennessee Williams THE ROMAN SPRING OF MRS. STONE drew my interests because of the cast. I had seen the older version and wanted to give this version a try. I loved it. Anne Bancroft and Helen Mirren were stellar. The story involves an aging actress that finds herself sort of drifing as she enters the middle years of her life. She finds comfort for her melancholy and the sex life she always wanted in the form of a young lover. As she lets herself love this man, many conflicts come into her own mind...that of beauty, aging, sex, love, and she is swept up into a situation she is unable to control and into a life she can not let go of. She feels for once validated and truly beautiful...more fulfilled sexually and more herself. The pivotal event in the story, has her seeking continued solace in a dangerous way. I chose this DVD because I am a true Williams fan. I love how he can combine the carnal aspects of man with the emotional and spiritual...the pain and conflict are so stark and they have you searching your own thoughts and judgements. The DVD was in excellent condition and arrived well shipped and quite quickly. I recommend this version of the film for the more contemporary aspects and the older version simply as a touchstone. Both versions are excellent. I reccomend this film to anyone, but more to those that find themselves sort of conflicted about their direction. The cinematography is so wonderful and the scenes sparkle with sensuality. Bancroft is amazing but it is Mirren that steals the show. I highly reccomend this film.

Beautiful lyrics...beautiful illustrations
This is perhaps one of the most beautiful books I have seen. I love the illustrations and those coupled with the wonderful lyrics of Joni Mitchell's timeless song, it is a perfect way to introduce this lovely song to your child, or perhaps to hold as a reminder of the song for yourself. I happened to see this book at a flea market going for a much higher price and thought I might check here on eBay to see if it was available. It was and for a remarkably reasonable price. This book is one I am so glad to have in my collection and if you are considering it as a purchase or as an acquistion for your own library my suggestion is that you will not hesitate...it is a beautiful book and one I know you will enjoy and treasure time and again.
