Has been modified without improvements
0 of 1 found this helpful I do massage and to give my customers something nicer to look at than normal blinding halogen down-lights; I purchased this star laser projector to simply REPLACE the old one I had which the laser had suddenly died.
Since buying the first laser the company who makes these had changed the design to include some "new features"- to which I was not expecting it to be different to the first one I bought.
The modifications were changing the laser to an on/off squishy button so you could optionally have the nebula just by itself and turn the stars on later if you so wish. The problem with this is that normally I keep the laser on a shelf out of arms reach and use a remote control to connect it to power turning the stars on and project on my high ceilings at the end of a massage for the clients to wake to. I didn’t even need to be in the room I could just hi the button on the remote from anywhere in the building and (hey presto!) a galaxy of stars on the ceiling!
This way; having the laser higher up than a table or the floor - the pretty illusion that it is a galaxy of stars isn’t ruined by a big shadow of me walking in front of the laser. The shelf WAS perfect! The distance of the shelf away from the massage table meant you didn’t have to listen to the fan keeping the laser cool.
So whats my problem with the modifications? WELL with the new ON/OFF squishy button it means you can never have the stars switched on. It’s not a click on click off button. I tried bypassing the squishy on/off button thats one press for on one press for off with some tape to hold it down. So when power is switched on the stars come on immediately. This was my brief genius quick fix that later proved worthless since they also included a TWO HOUR TIMER that switches the laser off until the squishy on/off button is pressed again.
WHICH MEANS that after two hours of sticking the button down into the on position with tape I would need to get the ladder out again to climb to the ceiling shelf; reset the laser ON/OFF button to make the laser turn on and not just have the blue light nebula just running by itself. Not exactly practical or effortless to add a little wow factor to the room. The new laser button meant soon after delivery it became a complete whole room furniture rearrange to accomodate this new laser so that I could press the button at table height after a massage and find somewhere else to keep my work products that I use for the massages. It was extremely time consuming and had I not spent so much money on a new laser I would have just abandoned the idea of having a galaxy projected onto the ceiling.
All in all, if a company wants to add a feature to enhance a product they shouldn't take away some of its practical functions away like the stars turning on when you turn the power on. The 2 hour switch off timer would be fine if the stars could simply just turn on when there is power to the device.
In addition i live in Australia, the first laser I bought had an Australian plug included so I didn’t think to check that it would come with an American plug. So I just used the previous laser plug that I already owned to make this new one work for me. The whole experience was quite more of a process than I was expecting. Hopefully this laser won’t die anytime soon so I don’t have to do this again. I hope this gives some other people some aspects to think about of buying light that they may not have ever considered until they open the box and try turn it on.
