I believe I left positive feedback...is writing a "review" something new? I'm not a movie critic.
2 of 3 found this helpful An outstanding romantic film: "romantic" not so much in the sense of being exclusively about romantic love, but something more complex: Zhivago loves two women very much: his "cousin" who's not really related by blood but by family upbringing. When his mother dies when he is a young boy, with a father who has no part in the young child's life, the mother's best friends (with a young girl child of the same age as young Yuri Zhivago) grow up as brother & sister, predictably marry, have a child, and deal well with hardships imposed by the Russian Revolution. Dr. Zhivago's medical practice takes him somewhat unwillingly into the center of the medical hardships and human tragidies which follow in the deep social upheaval of Russia in the early 20th century. He meets and falls in love with a nurse, Lara, and gives his heart and his self in no less a loving way than his feelings and commitment toward his love for his wife Tanya. The romance is multi-personal... loving two women deeply but unable to control the larger events of their lives during the Russian revolution, with economic and social forces turned on their heads against the injustices of the centuries-old Russian stratified social world dominated by the landed and economically and politically dominent aristocracy. A wonderful movie...perhaps my favorite in this genre. I can't recommend it strongly enough - its history, its romantic love, its patriotism, and the predictable but nevertheless terribly sad ending.
