Meinl Byzance Brilliant Heavy Ride 22
1 of 1 found this helpful I have a 24" med Traditional that I love for my big kit, but live it can be a bit too much. The 22 heavy has a more contained ping and a great bell, plus it is easier to carry. You don't have to hit too hard to get the sound out of it. If you do hit it hard the brassy body wash starts to build but the pings are still clear. Great for rock or blues, light sticks could make this ok for jazz, This has that Turkish hand made sound, no two are the same. I play with wood tips so it has a brassy, darker ping, I think nylon tips would give it a more glassy ping if that is what you like. Played it with the band and and they loved the sound, a lot of the wash disappears playing live and you are left with a nice ping. You don't have to hit it hard to hear it. Since it is heavy ride I do end up choking it by hand during breaks and at the end of the song.

Does not have much cedar smell, the kit may have been old or maybe it is just this product. The pieces seem made well but don't do their job.

Puresound Snare Wires 13" Custom Pro Steel - 24 Strand
Puresound has come up with something new with these wires. I normally use cord on all my snares, but thought I would try this out. I actually bought the brass wires first and bought these to swap between two 13" snares. The strap system works great, I think they are onto something with the single strap, it seems to give a more and sounds almost like cords. This little hook pin slips into a pocket sown into the strap, the strap marks make it easy to line up to level the wires. These lay on the head well with the little feet on the end of the clip. These have a bit more bite than the brass wires, maybe a bit darker. Great wires, would buy more sets.
