Making DIY Drip System Water Filters.
Doulton water filtering products are made in Great Britain. Extremely high quality. Avoid the knockoffs.
Pro: Made up a number of DIY cannister drip water filters. If you are doing this, use Doulton filters.
Con: Doulton should sell extra sets of washers for the filters.

Not fancy, just works.
Pro: May not need very much but when needed, having it is like gold. Saves me time.
Con: The magnets don't hold very well.

Provides a backup solution
Katadyn water filtering products are extremely high quality. Not inexpensive, but worth it.
Pro: Relatively inexpensive way to make water potable (drinkable). Good backup to a professional grade water filter.
Con: Takes up to 4 hours, but it's a backup.
