Good image quality, usable zoom range; needs zoom lock
1 of 1 found this helpful This 100-400 mm is a better solution, for me, than an 80 - 200 (200 not enough) or the 200-600 (200 so tight!). With 100 mm, you can take a picture of a subject in front of you, it's wide enough to still see a whole face and chest -- and the 400 is a good magnification!
I'm impressed at the image quality. I've shot birds mostly during the two weeks I have owned the lens, and even a bird that seems a spec can be enlarge with good image quality. Finally got a "classic" full moon shot that was clear, never achieved that with other lenses.
Like many have said, there is no lens lock so the zoom gradually releases and extends the lens as you walk along. That's unfortunate.
