Decent performance, runs warmer than I care for.
The card has really decent performance, considering that I am using it in a PCI-E 1X slot. I have had no performance issues running Microsoft Flight Simulator X and also X-Plane 9, both at full screen and display settings to high.
The only negative comment I would make is that many ATI cards seem to run warm. This card idles at 67C. Perhaps this is what ATI considers acceptable. To me, it is too hot for a card at idle. The card has never over-heated during game play. I have seen it at 80C at times. It would be a good candidate for an aftermarket cooler, but due to the "non-reference" design, aftermarket coolers may have to be modified to work. I have a Thermalright T-Rad2 GTX that does a good jobon my 4870, but there are relays on the card that interfere with installation on this 4890.
The card is over-all a very good graphics card. I would use caution if you plan to buy this with the intent of adding an aftermarket cooler.

Good card for the money
I purchased a used model of this card. I can't give a perfect review because my motherboard can't utilize the full potential of the card. That being said, I will add that this card is backwards compatible with my PCI-E 1X slot, while others are not. If you have an older motherboard, it is an important consideration.
I was able to play Microsoft Flight Simulator X at 1680 x 1050, with all settings at max. After 15 minutes of full screen playing, the GPU was running at 63C and the fan was running at 35%. It never got any hotter than that and I never heard the fan increase speed.
Before considering this card, make sure that your power supply is adequate. This single card draws about 75 more watts than the ATI X-1650 Pro that it replaced. It has 2 PCI express (6 pin) power connections.
Also, I run Linux on this same machine. Works perfectly. GLX gears showed the card running approximately 8000 frames per second with Compiz turned off. Even with Compiz on, the card averaged over 1000 frames per second.
Unless you are determined to throw $500 into a video card and have the CPU and RAM resources to back it up, this card is very much worth considering..
