Excellent Model!
I bought this locomotive because I've had a dummy unit of the same engine since I was five or six. This is a gorgeous locomotive. While Santa Fe never had SDP40s in real life, this model is perfect for freelanced modelers who are in the hobby for fun and would just like some beautiful Warbonnet power for their ATSF trains. Because these are passenger engines by design, it would be most fitting to run them with passenger cars. The paint job is nicely done, and the silver trucks and fuel tank compliment this locomotive's brilliant red paint. My only complaint is that the locomotive's motor was loose, and upon removing the shell, discovered that the original motor mounts were destroyed, and I hard to order a set of replacements. Despite this, the locomotive ran smoothly in forward and reverse when I put it on the track. When the motor mounts finally arrive, I'll be able to run this locomotive at it's full potential.
I'd highly recommend this, or any of Athearn's other SDP40 bluebox locomotives. They're reliable and good pullers.

Came as described
Track came as described. I'm in the process of constructing a double-tracked HO scale layout, and tend to run my trains at higher speeds, which becomes an issue when you're using smaller radius curves. These are just what I needed, and fit nicely on the outside of my 32' inch radius curves.

Slight repairs needed, but overall satisfactory.
This passenger car arrived intact for the most part. Only problems to note at first was a sagging chassis and sounds of something loose on the inside of it. Upon removing the shell, I discovered the two screws holding in the molding of the passenger seats inside (and some of the electrical apparatus) had come completely out, and the plastic sockets to hold them in were obliterated. I suspect this is the result of a factory error since the car was unused. I glued the screws back in where I think they went, and shaved the sides off two k-nex rods to use as bracing to keep the chassis from sagging. Other than the slight repairs I had to implement, the car is a smooth roller, runs great and behaves well with my other amfleets, and still lights up. It looks great on my Amtrak National Limited set. I'd give it a 5/2 out of 10.
