Brilliant first draft that is still relevant 60-plus years later
1 of 1 found this helpful This is basically an unedited first draft - a time capsule from the 1950s - but it is still better than 95% of novels published recently.
The characters argue over topics we’re sadly still seething over today. The characters are vivid and well developed - Atticus is far more complex and stubborn in his ways, though he seems to be seeking common ground with the community, trying to figure out how best to appeal to them. Contrary to over-hyped reviews, the real racists are the boyfriend and the uncle. There are chunks of text the author likely would have reworked/rewritten/omitted, given the chance at a younger age Overall, it is a highly pleasurable reading experience, thought provoking and beautifully written.

No manual!
Jury is still out on this machine. Had to look up the manual online to figure out why it wasn’t brewing (the drip thing? was not open). Then instead of brewing one cup, as indicated, it brewed two cups, spilling all over the counter. Will keep trying. From previous reviews, i know i will need the manual to clean it properly, but it’s easy to find it online.
