You get what you pay for
First of all, I should have known that I was buying a "pig in a poke" when it came to the case. I was going by the description alone, which did turn out to be accurate. There was no illustration. I found the case to be quite clumsy to use for portability. The instrument itself is fine, though I found myself using a drop of vegetable-based oil on each of its valves, as well as on the slides.

Just as advertised
..keeps sound muted, without distorting tone, and is not objectionable in the amount of back-pressure it introduces in doing its job.
