Good for the price
Overall, a very solidly made mid-level speaker. It's not going to blow you away with volume or sound quality, but both are more than adequate. It's one of very few speakers I found that offer a memory card option AND true waterproof rating to allow phone-free playback.
The microSD card works OK, but has limited function. There's no way to sort folders or shuffle songs, it plays all songs in alphabetical file name order. It does remember where in that order you left off, and resumes there next time SD mode is selected.
Bluetooth also pairs easily and works fine. Nice to have both previous and next buttons, a lot of speakers lack the former. The claimed 60ft range is not realistic, it's 20-30ft with clear line of sight, same as most other battery operated bluetooth devices.
The 2200mah battery is on the smallish side. The claimed 8 hour life is doable, but only if the volume is kept down pretty low. I generally seem to get more like 6-7 hours on average, and if it's turned up higher, it's been dead in under 4. It's not going to keep a large party going all day, at least not without a charger. It's got enough life to make it through an afternoon at the pool, the scooter ride there and back, and a couple hours on the patio that evening, by which point it started playing the rather annoying low battery jingle, where it pauses the music to play a little tone about every 30 seconds, which goes for 10-15 minutes until it powers off.
The included velcro strap is cheesy and wears out very quickly. A cheap carabiner and bit of paracord is a much better replacement to tether it, which you'll want to do near deep water since while it may be waterproof, it definitely doesn't float. It includes a standard micro-USB cord and headphone jack AUX cord, but not the usb wall adapter. Chances are you already have about 6 of these in a junk drawer somewhere, but worth noting.
For the "street price" of about $60, this is a solid buy. There's definitely nicer stuff out there, but there's also a lot worse.

The ultimate power cruiser
14 of 14 found this helpful If you want the performance and power of a sportbike, but the comfort and manners of a cruiser, look no further. The V-Max combines the best of both worlds. Absolutely mind-blowing acceleration and a top speed pretty much only limited by your daring. The 1200cc V-4 mill delivers seemingly limitless power on tap from just off idle all the way to it's 9500 RPM redline. However, the power is easy to control and well-mannered around town and at slower speeds. The hydraulic-assist clutch pull is linear and predictable, and the shifts are short and precise, enabling smooth clutchless shifting. V-boost is an exclusive feature, and opens a valve linking the front two and rear two carburetors, letting each cylinder breathe through two carbs instead of one. A servo motor opens the valves starting at 6000 RPM, giving a noticeable surge of power on top of the already blistering acceleration. However, even with the incredible acceleration, the bike stays flat and composed. Handling is surprisingly good for a bike of this size and weight, and upgrades are widely available to make it even better. It can't carve like a sportbike, but with a few mods it can come pretty darn close. Couple that with the pulls-like-a-freight-train engine and you get one fun bike on twisty roads.
It says Yamaha on the side, so you can expect reliability to be top-notch. The motor was pretty much unchanged from 1985-2007, they knew they had a good mill and didn't go messing with it. These bikes are pretty much bulletproof and do not have any crippling known issues. Due to the long run of virtually unchanged bikes, parts and accessories are widely available, as is knowledgeable help.
Comfort is good, but stock is not up to the level of more traditional, laid back cruisers or the new style sport-tourers. The stock seat is rather firm and leads to a sore butt after an hour or two. Aftermarket seats are widely available, and are guides to modify the seat yourself. The stock riding position is fairly upright, maybe slightly leaned forward depending on your arm length. The posture is a little more "sporty" than your average cruiser, but then again so is this bike. Wider handlebars and highway pegs greatly improve comfort for long rides. Again, accessories(both OEM and aftermarket) are widely available so you can find what works best for you.
The bike's craftsmanship seems to be top-notch. Everything just fits together well. The bike is easy to work on when swapping parts or adding accessories. Welds are clean and smooth. The engine is smooth and I have had zero issues with it.
Short of liter-plus sportbikes, I have yet to find anything that keeps up with my Max. Even cruisers with hundreds more cc vanish with the flick of a wrist. The bike is loads of fun, a perfect mix of cruiser posture and manners and the fiery performance of a sportbike. Look for a 1996 or newer to get the few factory updates, such as minor suspension tweaks, improved brakes, and a few electrical fixes. Used prices are fairly low IMO for what you're getting. You can get a 10 year old hot-rod for the same price as a new entry-level cruiser, and half that of even a base H-D, either of which you'll want to upgrade from in a year anyway. Seems like a no-brainer to me, particularly considering the Max's reliability record.

Beta Xtrainer 300
Identical replacement for the stock NGK Beta Xtrainer plug, which uses a slightly different name and are only available through Beta for $25 each. These are absolutely identical aside from the code stamped on the side, and much more reasonably priced- you get a pack of four for what Beta charges for one
