Loan me a dime by Fenton Robinsinson
This is the composer's recording of "Loan Me A Dime" made famous by Boz Scaggs and Duane Allman. A brief history of the title song is included in the liner notes. Over all this is a good but unremarkable release of typical blues. Fenton Robinson's vocal style leans considerably in the direction of soul, and may be the most outstanding element on this disc. The compositions are good but unremarkable, the recording quality is OK but also unremarkable. The liner notes are very interesting since I have enjoyed the wellknown version of the title song for many years and also informed me that Mr. Robinson lived near to me for some time. However, I must say that I prefer the Scaggs/Allman cover version for recording quality, the arrangement, and most of all, the performance.
