Factory defective units
This is the second "Westinghouse" disposer that I have purchased (from two separate dealers). The first worked wonderfully for about two weeks then the seal went bad and it leaked water profusely, and had to be replaced.
The second, does not leak but has a turntable that is out of balance or possibly a defective bearing. But the unit is extremely loud and vibrates excessively, even with nothing in it. The first unit, that leaked, was very quiet for a high speed disposal and worked wonderfully until is began leaking.
These units have nothing to do with the original "Westinghouse" corporation which went defunct in the 1990's. A company called "Conglom" purchases these units from Communist China, where they are built. They pay a small licensing fee to stick the "Westinghouse" logo and name onto each unit.
When these units work, they work great. However, quality control as well as the quality of the raw materials used in Communist China built products often leaves a lot to be desired.
I am going to attempt to get this unit replaced under warranty and/or the service contract that I purchased.
If you by this unit (which is discontinued by the manufacturer, by the way) be prepared. You may get a defective unit. However, if you get a good one you will enjoy it as it is well designed, relatively quiet and grinds very quickly. However with poor Chinese quality of materials, I cannot guarantee it will last you very long. It is a very lightweight machine, which does makes for easier installation, but compared to hefty U.S. built units, like "In-Sink-Erator", it seems almost like a child's toy. It is composed mostly of plastics and thin lightweight metals.
So, buyer beware, you get what you pay for.

An amazing garbage disposal!
1 of 1 found this helpful This In-Sink-Erator disposal It easily handles pork chop bones, potato peels, corn cobs and watermelon rinds, and paper towels. In fact, it has handled everything I have put into it. It is among the quiets disposals I have ever had and it doesn't take a lot of room under the sin either. Best of all, its made in the U.S.A.
I highly recommend this disposal.
