My favorite FM album.
My favorite FM album. I don't think they ever topped it. FM were similar to Rush in that they were also from Canada, were a trio and that their lead singer also played bass and keyboards. All similarities to Rush stop there, however. In terms of sound, I think FM sounded more like Yes, particularly the Tormato album, in the sound of the synthesizers and with Nash The Slah's electric mandolin playing. And vocally, Cameron Hawkwins was much closer to Greg Lake and John Wetton than Jon Anderson and Geddy Lee, even though he really doesn't sound like any of them.
Great song titles, like 'Phasors On Stun' and 'Slaughter In Robot Village'. A very progressive album, loud and heavy in lots of places, jazzy on a few of the instrumentals (two of which were written by their drummer Martin Dellar), with catchy vocal melodies and hooks all over the album. Lots of synthesizers, but not too much. My three favorites include 'Phasors on Stun' and the two instrumentals 'Hours' and 'Slaughter on Robot Village'. The second half is better than the first...I still can't recall how the last two songs on the first half sound!
Overall, a very solid progressive rock album.

Incredible book.
2 of 2 found this helpful This is an amazing book about a 43 year old man who dies and re-lives most of his adult life, starting with his college days, over and over and over again. A compelling read. I have read the book three times and I enjoy almost even more with each read. Lots of neat little plot twists and turns, which I don't dare reveal here. One of my favorite books of all time.

Nice re-issue but it could have been better.
I have always loved this album and I still do. I was happy to see that Civilian was being re-issued with the bonus track Heroes No More, which was available on the long out of print version on One -Way Records. I think it’s a crying shame did this song did not make it on the original album, for I think it is a great song and would not have sounded out of place on Civilian. Nice to see that they included the lyrics for it, along with the other songs.
I am disappointed that there are not additional liner notes or extra photos included. And they also leave out that little musical montage at the end of It’s Not Imagination. Still, this does not take away my enjoyment of the album.
