Open Box Seymour Duncan STHR-1N Hot Rails Telecaster Neck Guitar Pickup Black
    Apr 11, 2020
Great sounding pickup, requires some extra work to install it if you have a pickguard.
The Seymour Duncan Hot Rail for Tele neck position pickup sounds fantastic, I'd give it five stars for that. But, that isn't all of the story. From Seymour Duncan's website: "If you've ever wanted to get full sized humbucker sounds from the neck position of your Telecaster, but didn't want to route it out, then this is the pickup for you. The Hot Rails Tele Rhythm is designed to give you full, warm humbucker tone in a size that drops into your existing pickup slot....." I am here to tell you that slthough this pickup does fit into the route without any issues but that's where the "drops into" ends... you have to file/sand the opening in the pickguard and enlarge it to get the pickup in because it is slightly too large. Not only that, but it is not threaded to mount to your pickguard with the typical screws and springs (or tubing), it needs to be body mounted. Because of the installation issues I took a star away. It would be simple to mount into a guitar with no pickguard. It was worth the effort for the tones, but was not informed of the extra work required to install it.

Fender Player Telecaster Electric Guitar (Black, Maple Fingerboard)
    Jan 14, 2020
    Great looking and playing Tele.
The Fender Performer Series Telecaster is a great playing and sounding guitar. The fit and finish is very good, the neck is sleek and fast, the hardware is nice and functions like it should, and the pickups are versatile and give the player enough tonal variety to cover a wide range of music. There is no reason why a pro couldn't take a couple of these and tour the world without doing any mods, with the exception of adding straplocks. Of course there are many players looking for very specific tones that will change the pickups on any new guitar they buy, but that is strictly a matter of personal preference. Bedroom, garage, club, recording studio, arena... this guitar can take you from start to finish. And there are tons of aftermarket parts available for people looking for a solid platform to customize. The quality of these Mexican made guitars is very good, you can spend a lot more to have a few more refinements, but the cost to performance ratio of this line of guitars is hard to beat. You can have two of these modded to perfection for less than the cost of one "top shelf" made in the US model.
