Straw Dogs
2 of 2 found this helpful Sam Pekinpah's first forray into non-western territory is an absolute masterpiece. Essential 70's cinema. Probably the most insightful and uncomfortable meditation on violence (both physical and emotional) that i've seen. Also, the production, action, and direction really holds up well over time. The feel of the story isn't really unique to any decade or small town so it forces the viewer to focus on the themes that are presented.
This movie pissed a lot of people off and apparently was banned in the UK for quite some time. But like most things that are worth taking something from, it is challenging and difficult to make sense of at first. There is a lot more revealed in second or third viewings, particulary in regards to the cruelty of Hoffman's character. Anyway, i would recommend this to anyone that is a fan of film. This one's a classic.
