Good Flash... Viewfinder Display Oddities for Minolta
A good flash for the money. The Sunpak 433D dedicated flash is an economical alternative to the Minolta 360PX. It has similar power to the Minolta 360PX plus tilt and swivel adjustments, but lacks the lighted calculator dial and full integration to Minolta's Power Grip and Databack accessories. However, it makes up for its shortcomings by having more 3rd party accessories available for it. It is also compatible with older bodies that don't have TTL (2 shoe contacts instead of 3); you just flip a small switch on the hot shoe. There is a slight incompatibility with the "ready" indicator in the viewfinder. When a dedicated Minolta flash is ready, it causes the LED at the synch speed in the viewfinder to blink at about 1 Hz. The Sunpak unit does not cause the LED to blink, just holds it steady. You can still tell the flash is ready even without the blink because the LEDs for "A", "M", or "P" modes will be turned off when the flash is ready... only the LED locked steady at the synch speed will be visible. ***This only applies to the 433D unit; the Sunpak 444D unit (with the interchangeable MX-2D module for Minolta) behaves just like a Minolta brand flash.
