classic headphones
Classic headphones, outstanding for classical, jazz and acoustic and because of closed backs a reasonable choice for use on planes. The 32 ohm impedence allow it to play right out of the 3.5 jack on an iphone 6s, but are substantially enhanced with a portable amp-DAC,

Pack Up Your Sorrows: Mimi and Richard Farina
I am not a fan of the Farinas and this collection did not change my mind but it is interesting to hear these original performances by an influential folk duo of the early-mid 60s. They were both in the immediate circle surrounding Bob Dylan and Joan Baez (Mimi is Joan's younger sister) and gave me some insight into the development of American popular song in that era. Joan Baez and Judy Collins performed covers of several of these songs, arguing for Richard Farina's place among the premier folk song-writers of his era. His death in a motor cycle accident added weight to the work. The Joan Baez covers of the songs in her Contemporary Ballad Book (not available on cd) still seems to me to be the finest treatment of his better known songs.

The AKG 612s are superb, underrated headphones
2 of 2 found this helpful The AKG 612 appears to me to be closest to the design and technology of the 700 series, but responds to concerns about the 700 series' reputed neutrality or flatness. My tastes in audio tend towards the German-Austrian makers and each has outstanding entries, but the AKG sound is my particular favorite for acoustic contemporary, jazz, opera and orchestra. I purchased the headphones to replace AKG 545s. The intensity and precision of the 612s astounded me in every genre sampled. The phones are amplified for portable use with the ES 100 amplifier which, to my non-audiophile ears, produces a deep, rich and exciting sound from high resolution files and high quality streaming audio in mp3 and aac. Jazz and baroque opera particularly shine and the precision and sound stage reveal intriguing, satisfying nuances in every performance. The negatives one hears occasionally about AKG and the 612s in particular tend to come from listeners who enjoy other musical genres. I'm sure there are more satisfying headphones for people interested in bass-heavy contemporary music and electronica. But for beautifully recorded classical, jazz and acoustic contemporary, I've never heard better. The 612s bring out details, even in familiar music, that I've never heard before.
