Great Quality with SD Card Reader
1 of 1 found this helpful Before buying this player I looked at several buyer reviews of other players. Since this is all I did before and after buying this player, the perspective of the following comments is limited.
An inadequate volume level is a comment I have seen made about several players. That is not an issue with this player although I give the quality of its speakers a C+. With headphones the sound quality is excellent.
The picture quality of this player does not come close to what I have seen on HD flat panel screen TVs displayed in retail outlets. The eight inch screen of this player has a resolution of 480x234. For a portable unit, to me, the quality of the picture looks very good.
Battery life on this player will vary based upon whether you are buying a used, refurbished or new player. A new player has a four hour rating. The refurbished unit I purchased will play DVD discs for a little over 3 hours.
What I found rather surprising was the lack of information regarding the advantage of having a slot utilizing a flash memory card. What I learned by experimentation and very limited knowledge follows.
The battery life using a SD card was a little over 5.5 hours. You would think the manual would have pointed the extended battery life using a SD card would give, it did not.
It appears a 2GB is the largest SD card this player will read. I know for sure it will not read a 4GB HC SD card. Nor will my camera accept such a card but every card reader I have will both read and write to such a card. Is there a 4GB non HC SD card available?
Using a PC-TV card and Beyond TV (BTS) software is the only method I have used to record files for SD card playback. BTS will only record DivX in SSX format which this player will not read. However BTS will convert the recorded files into a DivX AVI format which the player will read.
The files can be either recorded directly or copied directly to the SD card from the hard disc after the recording and conversion has been completed. It takes about 8.5 minutes to copy 2GB of files from the hard disc to a standard speed SanDisk memory card.
BTS offers several recording quality options. Portable High (128kps) and Home Theater Low(224kps) are the only ones I have tried. For some reason the MB/Hour has not corresponded with the bit rate of recording, 355 versus 380 MB/Hour file size for the 128kps and 224kps bit rate, respectively. With either option you are going to get about 5 hours of recording on a 2GB SD card. The quality option of the recordings played back on this player using 224kps has been close to DVD playback quality. Using 128kps the picture is a little snowy and a bit out of focus at times (Fair to Poor).
The player will resume playback from the previous spot when stopped; however, this feature is lost if the power is shutoff. The maximum fast forward speed of 16x provides a stuttering string of pictures that is easy to follow.
The buttons on the player, when pushed, have a click that can be easily felt. Overall the construction of the player has a solid feel to it.
Summing it up, I wanted a durable player having a long battery life, and good picture. So far this player has measured up to those needs quite well.

A Must Have Item for Street Riding
This mirror has two problems.
1. Every bump would cause the mirror to drop. I was having to readjust the mirror every two minutes on my typical ride. The ball joint for the mirror to mirror arm is tight and holds it position well. It is the ball joint on the helmet mounting plate that was not holding its adjustment. Using a spring loaded center punch to put small craters all around the pivot ball tightened the joint up enough that it now does not need to be adjusted very often if at all on my rides. It would be easier to do this before the mirror is mounted on the helmet.
2. My helmet is rounded where the mirror mounts and the adhesive tape provided did hold the mirror steady. Using hot glue fixed this problem. I also made sure there was no flex where the ball joint meets the helmet bracket by filling that gap between the mounting plate and the helmet at that point with glue. Now my mirror is solid and provides a clear view. I have successfully used hot glue before with other mirrors. Even after a couple years of use I found it difficult to remove from plastic. It did do mirror, but repairable damage, when carefully cut off from Styrofoam.
Without modifications I would have given this product only one star. However, given the modifications required to get the mirror working properly were inexpensive and very easy to do, only one star was deducted. The mirror is a good size, provides a very clear image and can be easily be adjusted to provide an excellent rear view. In my opinion the mirror is just as important as the helmet. Preventing an accident is just as important as being protected from one.
