A good but not great movie
As a big Takeshi Kaneshiro fan and also a fan of Asian films in general, this has its good points and its bad points. It is entertaining but some of the action gets a little monotonous. The biggest problem is the voices are all dubbed with other people's voices than the actors, which can be a little disconcerting, and in typical fashion of low budget Asian films they have both the Mandarin tracks and Cantonese tracks running at the same time, albeit with distinctive voices, but it's still a jumble of spoken lines. It's almost better to mute it and just read the subtitles.

Not great, but very good and a lot of fun
This film has a lot of very silly things about it, but if you don't take the whole thing too seriously, it is definitely worth watching. You can tell that everyone involved was having a lot of fun and that fun extends to the audience. This was Takeshi Kaneshiro's first major Japanese movie, and his performance is better than you would expect for a script like this, but he has enough of a tongue in cheek attitude that it works very well. The other characters are mostly stereotyped but be real, it's based on a kid's cartoon, though it's a little violent for young kids. I'm glad I bought it and expect to watch it again. If you're at all interested in it, it is fairly hard to come by these days, so grab it if you see one.

Great recording of a great Broadway Musical
Six is one of the best musicals on Broadway at the moment. It's certainly the most fun musical on Broadway. The score won several awards, including the Tony. i was a little concerned about this recording since it was recorded live on opening night. I had seen it in a preview performance and the audience was pretty rowdy, myself included. However, the recording managed to not get much of the noise from the audience, except at the very beginning when lights go down, the music starts and one by one the six wives make their entrance. I thought that was fine, it certainly gets you in the mood. That's really the only time when all you hear is the applause. All of the songs are well written, and brilliantly performed. Listening to this the first time brought back memories of seeing it live in the theatre. If you haven't seen it, this will inspire you to try to see a performance. It is playing in three cities other than New York at the moment, and there is one if not two touring companies that will be performing across the country. As of now, it's been running almost eleven hundred performances, for a small musical--six performers, five musicians, who are great by the way, and one set, that says a lot.
