A Great Camera for Novices or Experts
3 of 3 found this helpful I've always like Olympus products for the fantastically sharp pictures they've produced. This one is no exception. The 8 megapixel images are clean and crisp. This camera has many, many features. Some of these I don't know how to use yet like manual control of focal length, shutter speed or aperture setting. Yet it is really easy to pick up and use.
There is a guide feature hard-coded in the camera that provides a menu that helps you navigate the buttons and features. There are some really easy to use shooting modes for different situations like beach scenes or indoors shots. This camera takes movies with sound. The length of the movie is only limited by the memory available.
Olympus makes a range of memory cards that you can purchase for this camera. Anything from 125mb all the way to 1GB. I bought the 1GB card for about $50. I have yet to come even close to filling it up - even with several movie clips and lots of still shots. You could take one of these with a 1 gig memory card and tour Europe for a week and not fill it up.
This camera was recently rated by Consumer Reports. They gave it a good review. Their only complaint was that it didn't use AA batteries, but I consider this a plus. The lithium battery I'm using has been charged once in two months and still hasn't run out after shooting about 100meg of pics. All in all it's a great camera.
