Better than your average stand

I've used Ultimate Support stuff in the past and it has proven to be a very good value for the cost, this stand being no exception. I've heard complaints that due to the new clutch mechanism on the upper boom (the inside shaft that extends and retracts) that this will rotate and will not stay in place, thus making it difficult to position heavy microphones. Well this can not be further from the truth. This shaft cannot rotate since it is not round, but rectangular thus preventing rotation, once you've tightened it the shaft stays in place. Also the counter weight is more robust than competitive stands making balancing a heavy mic a snap. The clutch that resides on the bottom pole is oversized which makes tightening easy, and also prevents over-tightening. The tube caliper also seems bigger than other similarly priced boom stands, and this too adds to the stability also. All in all this is a wonderful stand for 90 % of the things you would want a boom stand for, like heavy drum overheads. I wouldn't recommend it for a Blumlein array or a Decca tree but Ultimate has another, heavier model for those purposes. If your looking for something beefier than your usual boom stand this is the ticket, and it won't break the bank.

Great Price

Needed to soak these in hot soapy water for a day or so to remove the dye smell, but one that was complete these were fine. Much better than buying them one at a time from CVS for 3 bucks a piece! Spent under ten dollars and have a lifetime supply!
