Good Grief, only a blockhead wouldn't like this!
3 of 3 found this helpful I can only say that this film is a major classic even though it is brief in length. I especially like Charles Schultz's courage to include the Luke 2 real Christmas story even though he was pressured to drop it. It has all of the simple genius of Schultz along with a story that will entertain adults and children. Having lived in the same town as Schultz in California, I had occasion to meet him and see him around. I know that he had a real concern that his characters and stories do more than make money. He tried to include things that would uplift and inspire as well as entertain. This is another example of that.

Best TV Show Ever Made
9 of 9 found this helpful Being a Baby Boomer who grew up in Berkeley in the 1960's, this show is about my life. Every episode reminds me of similar events I went through. The acting, scripts, production values, and music are in a class by themselves for modern TV and as good and better than those for modern movies. Even if you are younger, you can appreciate the stories about struggling to grow up and understand life and love. I don't know if the producers, actors, and network knew they were making drama history, but I think they were. There are some episodes I cannot watch without crying all over again. I am a 67 year old, six foot five male who does not cry easily. But this show so realistically captures painful young love and dealing with life in that simpler era in America, that it is like reliving my youth all over again. You won't be sorry having the whole series.

Great actors with poor direction
This should have been a great production with March and Rathbone, two actors I respect highly. However, the direction is so plodding and uncreative, it is a waste of their talent. I believe it was made for TV and has those limited production values. The story is shortened to the point that many key elements of the plot from the novel and from the other versions are left out entirely making the flow jerky and confusing. It feels like they were in a hurry to get it done so they rushed past certain familiar parts of the tale to get it over with. The versions from the 30's and the 50's are both superior, even the 70's musical version with Albert Finney. I can't recommend this highly flawed production.
