The Fine Line Between Genius And Lunacy [And Addictions]
Mel Gibson co wrote, produced and directed this riveting film of a culture that's civilization was rotting from within it's most "civilized" structures. I loved this excess of color and pageantry as well as the portrayal of the small Native tribes and their lifestyles and belief systems versus the "city people". While it played a heavy hand with the sacrifice aspects of this culture a little heavy was very concise with social structure and regalia. Gibson proved himself a complete genius on the way he put this together and created a lasting monument in cinematic history. You find yourself so close to little Jaguar Paw and his family you feel that you can reach out and touch them, feel with them and cry for them. One of the premises I feel is the more sophisticated the society the more demoralizing it is for the average citizen. The more pop and protocol the less soul and understanding of the real things of life. And then the exploiting among the group and further exploitation from outside groups. May no mistake, while everyone talks about "the plight of the Red Man" and the obscenities committed against the Natives of the Americas it really hasn't stopped especially in central and south America and foreign interests can be seen with the heavy hands creating and perpetuating this, especially in places like Columbia and on and on under various guises. The church has lent a great hand with the refusal to allow adequate birth control and womens rights issues to be dealt with legitimately. Children are literally living at dump site cast off like pound puppies and scraping for food and survival because of this. But, I digress, this movie is a running painting of beauty both real and contrived and something everyone should see, savor and think about!

Interesting New Murder Mystery Series
Well, the lead character was a bad but not dirty cop. Just an alcoholic sloppy mess that screwed up allot of cases or faced them with craven indifference. And then he died. That's where the first book of this series starts [dubbed the dead detective series] He has learned humanity and keeps learning after his demise and spends his ever after life trying to solve the cases he ignored in his life and the new ones that his fantasy real life wanna be partner takes on [without her knowledge]This is book 2 and it's good [somewhat light] reading am ready for 3!
