Hostage to the Devil : The Possession and Exorcism of Five Contem
    Feb 20, 2022
Stories that will scare the devil out of you, hopefully
This book will scare the devil out of you. And, if it doesn't, you might be suffering from what this author writes out - demonic possession. I approached this book after reading a pair of books by author M. Scott Peck. I am completely skeptical of all things paranormal and I'm a Christian. I mention these because they're a filter to my attitude toward the concept of demonic possession. Malachi Martin writes about five contemporary Americans demonically possessed in different ways. Understand that this book was released in 1976 so "contemporary" is 1950s-1970s. It's interesting that nearly fifty years on, we are now in the Information Age and "evil" actions are everyday and blasted through internet media. I strongly recommend reading this and thinking for yourself about the concept of evil in today's society, the cases which look like demonic possession, the fact that the Catholic Church now employs over 120 trained exorcists in the USA whereas, at the time of this book, they were few and far between.
Beatles, The - Yellow Submarine (DVD, 1999) Used Like NEW !!!
    Sep 27, 2018
My 8-year old requested it, so that says it all.....
I have an 8-year old grandson who asked me where my copy of "Yellow Submarine" is. That's all I need to say. I own it because it's a great document of my favorite band as they went through their psychedelic phase. But, for my grandson to embrace "Yellow Submarine" (asking for me to put it on & let him watch it) just shows you how it's become a multi-generational classic. But, it's not exclusively for the kids. Walk by the TV while the musical segments are playing & you'll still be there, three minutes later, probably singing along.

Riding So High: The Beatles and Drugs (Paperback or Softback)
    Sep 28, 2020
The Fabs felt drugs were essential. Therefore, this book is essential.
The Beatles were among the first pop bands to openly admit to using psychedelic drugs & went on the record in support for the decriminalization of marijuana. The band's leader, though, had a history of alcohol and substance (ANY substance, hard or soft) use which absolutely affected his art. The band's most successful songwriter had a long love affair with cannabis. As an addict myself, I cannot imagine the Beatles' story without a detailed discussion of their drug use. John Lennon was one of the first celebrity "LSD casualties" which led to the warping of his personality which led to his attraction to Yoko Ono which led to John becoming the first British rock musician of the era to get a heroin addiction. I know the role substances play in an addict's life. Drugs were absolutely as important in John Lennon's life as, say, music or art. And, probably in that order of importance. I suppose Mark Lewisohn will (should) cover this topic in his 2nd and 3rd books in his series, but I'm 52 and I'll be lucky to live long enough for this book to be published. (In fact, Lewisohn's approach to (esp John's) use of hard drugs will be the most fascinating to read, and impossible to neglect. Until the final Lewisohn books, "Flying So High" will remain the most important book about the most important thing to John Lennon & Paul McCartney - intoxicating substances. The only weakness is the lack of detail of George Harrison's 1970s era. I'm sure George did his share of drugs. His voice during the 1974 tour disaster might be attributed to nicotine and cocaine. Yes, drugs ruined the only U.S. tour George ever conducted.
