A very good story involving the Titanic sinking with information popularily known at the time. One glaring error
was that the iceberg cutting into the port bow instead of the starboard bow, this was known at the time.

Hammett portreys himself
1 of 1 found this helpful This movie is a fictional representation of Dashiell Hammett's post detective mystery writing life. Hammett's detective characters mirrored his physical and I would say a hoped for ideal version of his personality. The quirks that marked Sam Spade, Nick Charles, et al, are available in this movie, the setting of Chinatown squalor not withstanding. The movie is slow paced and dark, but if you have ever read the 'Thin Man' you will see a connection. You have to appreciate his characters and stories to like this movie.
