    Eugene O'Donnell & James MacCafferty - The Foggy Dew - CD - Buy 1, get 4 @ 50%

5 Stars Can't Do Justice to This.
The music presented here is excellent. Eugene O'Donnell is one of the few Irish musicians who know how to play slow airs, and make them even more compelling than all of those fast reels, jigs, etc. Now, that is a rare and a much needed gift. We hear a lot about beautiful music, but most people don't understand how really rare such music is. O'Donnell understands, and he delivers his brand of beautiful music in such a manner that you too will understand how really rare and beautiful it is.

Engaging Presentation of Great Tunes Makes for Entertaining, Instructive Video
Excellent video for anyone who already has a basic knowledge of the mandolin. This is geared to those who are at intermediate level of proficiency or above. Tablature is provided for the tunes, and they are played on the video, once slowly, then up to speed. The tunes themselves are some of the more rarely heard old time tunes, but, best of all, they are good tunes. Blake has a very "laid back" teaching style and this, combined with the friendly, down home approach of him and his wife Nancy, makes viewing this video very enjoyable even if you are not doing it with the aim of learning to play the tunes.Highly recommended for those who are looking for a broader perspective on traditional mandolin than is offered by bluegrass mandolin instruction books.
Herbert Von Karajan Profile, Good DVD, ,

As a Profile, It does the Job.
One will probably not find any groundbreaking insights in this dvd, but it is, after all, called a profile. It fills that need admirably, though at times one might wish for a little more depth. The sequence where Karajan, his father, and brother encounter the fiddler interrupted by a band of male percussionists dressed like women is interesting. It's also nice to have both a version in English and in German on the disc. Picture quality as upscaled on my digital tv was actually better than I expected . No complaints about the sound either--it is more than acceptable, especially coming from a product which hails from around 1999. I paid less than ten dollars for my copy (though there seem to be others going at much more exorbitant rates) and as such consider it a real bargain for anyone with anything more than a passing interest in Karajan.
