Gypsy
While I have been a Bette Midler fan for 35 years, I have always preferred her as a live performer over her role as a film star. Her film roles often cast her as playing Bette playing the role. In Gypsy, she shows that she really can act beyond the persona of the Divine Miss M. She shows a depth and genuineness in the role of Mama Rose that would befit other performers who have portrayed this thankless character on the stage. Compared to “For the Boys,” this is a stand-out dramatic performance where she also gets to sing!

It brings a smile to my face
On a trip to Bordeaux, I passed a store that had a street display of L'Occitaine products outside on the street. Coincidentally, my Viking ship provided their soap; and when I tried the cologne, I was hooked! That was four years ago. Today, whenever I spray it on, I'm walking in Bordeaux again with all those wonderful memoires!
