Metal thickness is adequate for the notched edges to grip the inside edges of the broken bulb metal base.

The tool is able to grip the two inside edges of the broken bulb metal base allowing for a counterclockwise rotation of the broken buld metal base to extract this metal base from the fixture bulb socket.
