The Waterloo Wonders story is classic small-town Americana that will amaze
1 of 1 found this helpful I bought this book to replace one that I had lost so I was already familiar with the story, but my interest had been piqued by seeing a PBS special about the Wonders. 2014 is the 80th anniversary of their first state championship, which is the reason, I think, for the PBS doc. This book, written in 1960, is an account of the truly amazing basketball team from the little town of Waterloo, Ohio (pop. 150 +/-)with 26 boys in the whole school, who during the two years of 1934-35, won two class B state chs., and playing near 100 games against many class A schools, including some college teams - lost only 3 games. They were so much better than their opponents, that they really were the Harlem Globetrotters of their era.

Interesting update to his earlier book of the Waterloo Wonders
This book is essentially the same as the earlier book, written in 1960, with more context, and updates. A very compelling, interesting read, making you wish there were films available back then,so you could see them in action. See review of "The Fabulous Waterloo Wonders"
