Easily a 10/10, INCREDIBLE value (looks/sound/feel).
16 of 18 found this helpful Let me first start by saying that I have been on a quest to purchase the best "Budget Fiddle" for the past several months. I have researched and researched trying to find out the best deal possible. I live in a rural area surrounded by amazing fiddlers, and many recommended going with Shar or Southwest strings and trying out a starter fiddle. Even used on ebay, these violins run between $150 to $300. Listening to the videos provided online, the sound was just lackluster. No umph, sparkle, or shine.
But then I came across this listing. I have to admit...I was incredibly skeptical when I first saw it in the suggested list on eBay. It looked like one of those "Too good to be true" ads you see on Facebook for clothes and such. So I read all of the reviews on eBay, the same listing on Amazon, and even searched the web. And the conclusion was that 1. This company was very unknown and 2. This violin was simply outstanding for the price. So, I decided to take a chance. And boy, am I glad I did so.
First of all, the violin is GORGEOUS. The online pics are just a tad over saturated/contrasty, but dang does it completely blow away any fiddle I've seen in the sub $500 range. The set up came exactly as described the bridge, bow, rosin, etc. all included and set up.
SOUND:
Out of the box, I could immediately tell I was playing with the big boys. Just with the stock strings, I could immediately tell that this was a more "Professional" and well-developed sound. You could likely stick with the factory strings and bow...but you're so close to supreme sound.
Do what I did: First, go ahead and buy a new set of strings (I bought the preludes medium tension for about $17). Little known secret that violin makers don't want you to know: The strings are actually one of the most important parts of the overall sound.
Second, you are going to need a new bow. I bought a carbon fiber black one for about $30. That's about the least you should be paying. I buy most of my non-used items from other "prime" online e-commerce sites.
After I made those changes....WOW! It sounds seriously incredible. I'm stunned, truly remarkable for such a cheap price. If you are in the market for a budget violin/fiddle (I personally play fiddle tunes), then this is PERFECT.
