FANTASY LOVERS MUST READ - An intriguing and inspiring novel for all ages!!
This book is the 5th book of Stirling's "Emberverse" series.. and the one I ended up reading first years ago.. Fantasy lovers will appreciate this ingenious twist of post-apocalyptic Earth, where a mysterious cataclysmic event (later to be known as ''The Change'') nullifies all modern technology within seconds. Cars, lights, planes, electronics, even gunpowder all ceases to function, and humanity spirals into a dark time of death, panic and starvation. The United States is no longer, and many factions arise. The wicked use "The Change" to seize unfathomable power and subjugate the starving masses. Meanwhile, several impromptu heros and heroins answer the call of chaos by restoring order and sanity to a world gone undeniably mad. The ways of old, become the way of new, as the lost art of the bow, lance and sword become the necessary skills of survival against scavengers, bandits, cannibals and ambitious tyrants. After reading this book I went to the beginning novel, "Dies The Fire" and have been systematically devouring novel after novel of this series. The journey that Stirling has brought me on has been phenomenal, and has made me laugh, cry (yeah, i'll admit it), and definitely cheer on the vivid characters he brings to life. Altogether, an epic tale embedded in my heart that i'll take to the grave.
