Sennheiser RS175 Headphones
0 of 1 found this helpful I bought these after many hours of research to get a high quality set of Headphones to listed to movies and tv shows without disrupting the family. Now after hours of messing around and several other component upgrades I have it all sorted out and hooked up via optical (digital) signal.
I tried a quick set-up when i first got these to the optical out on my receiver and no luck with sound other than the main menu on the blu-rays I was watching. So after reading the directions (which many of us do not) I see you needed a PCM linear optical feed, herein lies the issue. I use my PS3 or PS4 to watch blue ray movies with a digital signal to my receiver. In order to get a PCM optical feed, the rest of the family will not have DTS watching the movie. I found a work around for part of my system by using the optical output on my TV which works for most everything. However when watching certain movies you have to change the sound setting to 2CH vs. DTS or ATMOS. If you do not, you will have sound but the voices are real quiet. The next issue was my HTPC, I have HDMI and Optical out, however with Windows you can only choose one or the other. Finally the solution was upgrade my receiver, run everything with HDMI cables to the receiver and one HDMI to the TV. The TV converts for a optical out to the headphones, which again works good most of the time, sometimes you have to change the settings in the movie. I also tried a simple solution with a RCA to 3.5MM adapter, order the monster one for I-Phones, however that was useless, sound quality was not good, and after all I bought this model for the optical input, and the high reviews.
Once all the hook-up was done and all the bugs identified, the sound is incredible. I read a lot of reviews on these, and watched video reviews and they were correct on the sound quality. I am not sure I could wear these all day like some claimed, they get a bit hot and heavy for me after a 2.5 hr movie I am ready to take them off. I love the charging cradle and the features of the headphones, there are a couple simulated surround modes, they work fine, however I think that will be dependent on the movie and the listeners preference. The Bass Boost is nice but not needed for most movies and tv in my opinion. The initial charge time on the included batteries is about 18 hours. They also have included a optic cable and a 3.5 to 3.5 headphone cable, which without adapters does not connect to anything I have other than maybe a I-Pod.
At the end of the day, after all the messing around, I am very happy with the purchase I made, just be aware there may be some connection challenges based on the equipment you are running. It would be awesome if these had digital decoding in them so you can hook to any raw optical feed - it would have saved a lot of time and additional expense, however I was looking for a excuse to upgrade my receiver anyway.

Awesome company - great product
I have used these the last 4+ years on all my vehicles, they cool much better, last longer and are a great price. The coating helps keep the rotors from rusting. I just replaced my original set after almost 90,000 miles and the pads still had almost 1/2 the lining left. Can't beat the quality and price.

A Must Have
I don't know how I got along without these in the past, they are awesome, if you are doing any 12/2 - 14/2 romex wiring, you need to own these. It speeds up the stripping process a bunch and makes for quick / easy / nice work.
