Durable sharp zoom w quick AF
5 of 5 found this helpful 17 to 85 is a great standard range. This lens has been around awhile, has a solid weight to it, is quite sharp with a respectable manual pull and has a super fast and accurate autofocus. I was surprised that the AF is a tiny bit noisier than I expected, but only an issue if you're using the in-camera mic for video, which you shouldn't be doing anyway. Variable aperture, but oh well, that's life under 200 dollars for a zoom this well built and with this range. The image stabilizer is very effective and helpful on handheld shots. Great lens and worth the price, especially if you can grab a good used one.

Solid affordable filters...
Tiffen are the best budget minded filters in my opinion. I never cared for the variable filters. I like knowing specifically what stops I'm getting on every filter. Stack them if need be, which you can certainly do with these. But I rarely find I have to do that. Use them outside or under bright lights so you can open up that aperture and get some nice bokeh. They work great on my pair of Rokinon Cine lenses. The case even has an extra slot where I can stash my polarizing filter (a Tiffen as well). Clean, accurate and sturdy filters perfect for the budget filmmaker. Make sure you get the correct thread size to match your lenses!
