The true story behind the movie "Kingdom of Heaven"
If you've seen the movie Kingdom of Heaven then this is a must read. This book contains the un-Hollywoodized history of the events leading to the downfall of the Kingdom of Jerusalem. If, like many who have seen the film, you wonder, "what did they change for political correctness?" this book is for you. Unlike the movie this book is not CAIR (Center for American Islamic Relations) approved. Saladin is not such a benign figure as portrayed in the film. More importantly, the Templars are not the bunch of blood-thirsty zealots the film wood lead you to believe. The arch-villain of the film, Reynald de Chatillon (who is scapegoated into the reason for the entire war!) is shown to be more than a mindless barbarian.
I could go on about the many eye-opening details of this book, but why rewrite something that is already so well executed. Buy it, read it and pass it on to a friend. The trend in movies and books has been to villefy the West and to downgrade all of the accomplishments of the Crusaders as mere luck. This book will dissipate those vacuous arguments with well-researched historical facts.

A great buy!
1 of 1 found this helpful If you are a Queen fan than this is a "must have". Also, fans of the movie "Highlander" should not miss out on this one. There are great interviews with Queen about their involvement with the film to go along with the videos. This is a great companion piece to the Volume I Greatest Hits. The 5.1 sound rocks the house!!!!!!

An excellent overview of the Crusades
This is a great book for someone wanting a factual but concise history of the Crusades. It covers all the major Crusades in chronological order. Very well written. For a more specific look at the Crusader Kingdom of Jerusalem read "The Leper King and his Heirs: Baldwin IV and the Crusader Kingdom of Jerusalem" by this same author.
