NUMBERED 2015 EU 1st pressing Kind of Blue Miles Davis KOB SACD DSD CD
    Nov 19, 2019
Legendary album that is better as an SACD.
All five tunes on this SACD are classics, almost instantly unforgettable. This album is what many people think of when they think of Jazz: Cool. This SACD is quieter than the CD, and instruments have much better saturation. The bass is more articulated, louder, and warmer. Miles’ trumpet also comes across as better articulated. For those who care about such things, this is the speed-corrected version, according to the seller. I highly recommend this SACD to those who want to try Jazz, another fantastic album from 1959, which was a magical year for the genre.

    Polished Bernstein
This is the SACD-remastering of two Bernstein recordings. I have only listened to the Shostakovich since I can’t stand most Copland. It’s for the 1959 Shostakovich 5, with the blazingly-fast & therefore controversial ending, that I bought this disc. The Redbook version is clean-sounding, and both communicate Bernstein’s emotive take on the work. It’s the SACD-reamastering that does it justice. Any glare & roughness is removed, making the original recording even more musical & profound. I have found SACDs to have a polish that Redbook CDs lack. The differences are usually not shocking, but they are there, and the SACD is always an improvement. If you like Bernstein & Shostakovich, and you can accept his tempo in the finale, get this one.

    Sony DVP-CX777ES DVD Player

A wonderful machine for an audiophile.
I have multiple changers. One is dedicated to SACD playback, while the others alternately feed an outboard DAC By Toslink as transports for CDs. They have been entirely reliable. Everything is in the box. It is as simple as looking on my list for what I want to listen to by number & and then punching in that number. I listen to much, much more music this way because of the convenience. I use a Schiit Modi 3 DAC, which is a great improvement over the onboard DAC. SACD playback is fantastic. Black backgrounds, noiseless, no glare, and smooth. Superior to CDs. Due to the typical pricing of the Sony DVP-CX777ES, it’s a highly affordable introduction to SACDs. I am very satisfied with this product.
