If you collect Joe Meek, you need this in your rack. EXCELLENT !
Diamond Records have once again come up with the goods. No self-respecting Joe Meek collector should be without this gem. An impressive assortment of rarities: Promos, Demos & hard to find single tracks, nearly half of which are previously unreleased until this disc made its appearance, along with Diamond's usual care & attention to detail & fold out poster sized info booklet means there's lots on offer for the eyes & ears. The quality of this archive material does vary slightly, don't be put off by the quality of the opening track, it came from probably the only existing vinyl copy & the quality is much improved from then on & bearing in mind that to have some of this stuff at all is nothing short of a miracle, including the "infamous" Silas Dooley Jr album, considered "too close to the knuckle" back in the 60's (which features a little known guitarist called Ritchie Blackmore). Joe Meek's biggest hit was probably Telstar, this disc even features the earliest "work in progress" demo of this classic which Adams played the melody on, before The Tornados made it a pop classic. There's very little to dislike about this release, it fills a considerable gap in Meek's catalogue in one neat package, not the usual tracks you find on every other "Joe Meek Compilation". Give it a spin. Dave G
