Better than a Chinese clone, but not fantastic
2 of 2 found this helpful I bought the smash controller to replace my aging original GameCube controller that came with the system. It came without any noticeable manufacturing defects, and the build quality is good. Neither of the control sticks had any noticeable play in them, however the Start, A, B, Y, and X buttons were less tactile and "snappy" that the ones on my heavily used original controller (although still usable without being annoying). I've also noticed it develop a strange (but minor) issue with the main analog stick where it "bumps" when slowly moving it off center downward. It's difficult to describe, but not too noticeable when gaming, and its an issue I encountered on original controllers as well.
For lack of a decent competitor, I suppose its a decent value, but I still don't feel like the price matches the product. It's especially bad when you consider the fact that getting anew GameCube controller either means paying 40 dollars for one of these, or taking your chances with a cheap, Chinese off-brand product. Still, I bought it as a replacement for an aging controller and it's done that job well.
