at this price range, you can't go wrong with Sony
I bought my first Sony camera in 2002 and loved it for years. That was also my first digital camera, and much of the enjoyment came from being able to enhance photos on a computer after the fact. But the resolution was all I could have asked for. Finally decided to upgrade early in 2009 and bought a DSC-W300, which I loved even more -- but it was promptly stolen. I researched all available cameras again and concluded that, for my price range, Sony still had the best product. But the retail price had gone way up in just a few months, and I just couldn't bear paying that. So I haunted eBay looking for an affordable replacement and ended up with a DSC-W290, which is very similar. The most obvious difference is a larger LCD and no optical viewfinder. I haven't yet given this camera a thorough workout, but believe it to be a worthy replacement for the one I lost. Why do I like these cameras? The small size makes them so easily portable. Even in a padded case, the camera fits in my jeans pocket, which means taking it everywhere is simple. There's no need to be encumbered by something hanging from a strap around my neck, and little danger of making people self-conscious before I snap a candid shot. The biggest drawback I'm aware of is the inevitable noise (similar to grainyness in film cameras) in low-light conditions. Because of this, many times with my DSC-W300 I had what I thought were good shots based on the LCD but which were disappointing when viewed on a computer screen. That was part of my learning curve, and henceforth I won't expect so much in low light. Aside from that, great fun!

    LEGO Technic Getaway Racer 42046

Far superior the the usual Lego kit
My 9-year-old received this for Christmas and assembled it on his own in a reasonable amount of time. When he'd finished, he had a functioning toy, and one that both holds together and looks fabulous. I was truly impressed with it.
