About
I have been a long-time haunt of various S. California electronic swap-meets--the old-fashioned kind where ham-radio types and the original computer hobbiests would bring the surplus contents of their garages.

Great for podcasts, reviewing academic content, audiobooks
I use my Nano for podcasts, especially the "Sleep-with-me" podcast as I can work it under the covers with my eyes closed. If I fall asleep it can be hard to find the place where I dozed off, but that's a problem with any player.
It's also amazing for loading on recorded lectures and reviewing them before I teach a similar course. I can listen, mostly, but occasionally look at the screen to see what's going on. The battery life is way down with videos, of course.
It is mostly good for audiobooks, but some .m4b audiobooks that are over 13 hours (and some arbitrary size limit that I haven't figured out) just won't work. You have to use 3rd party software to split them. What a pain.
Finally, this requires iTunes, the most horrible program in the world, in order to load audiobooks, podcasts, etc., but after years of struggle it is just as horrible, but I can (mostly) get it to do what I want.

It *does* have a tripod mount!
You just gently pull off the rubbery monitor mount they are by revealing the standard tripod mount! Search for YouTube videos to show you exactly how to do it.
