Great product for a household (especially for compost beginners)
1 of 1 found this helpful I am very happy with this composter! Our neighbor bought one a couple years ago that we shared. I thought it was easy to use, but the composter isn't big enough to handle 2 households' trash, so finally I bought one for us!
PROS:
+ Not too hard to install! It arrives completely flat packed, so you do have to install it. Make sure to read the instructions once through thoroughly before starting. I made a mistake and mis-aligned the panels and I had to redo it. If I'd done it right the first time, it probably would've taken me only 20 minutes. You will need a partner.
+ Good size for 1 household
+ I like that it has a door that says which side to add to and which side to let sit.
+ It feels sturdy and well built. My neighbor's 2-year-old composter is still going strong!
+ It looks nice and discrete in a yard.
+ I started composting in mine two months ago and it's all going well! It's a great product for someone who's just starting to compost for the first time. Once you have a composter, it's so much easier to cut down on your garbage. This is big enough for 1 household and also small enough that it can fit in most front yards or patios.
CONSIDERATIONS:
- I think it's still on the small side for a household that cooks a lot. We've been using it for 2 months and both drums are almost filled now, which means there will probably be a period where we have to compost somewhere else because both drums will be totally full. But maybe I just have to get better at composting...
- If it gets cold where you live, the door can freeze shut in the winter.
- There is no crank - you just have to turn the drum using the indents. It can be a bit hard to do when both drums are full, and the indents can become nesting grounds for spiders, bugs, and debris.
- This is very minor but if the compost is too wet, it can leak a little bit from between the panels. But the leaks are small - it's not dripping wet, and it's a good reminder to add more Brown material in.
