Beautifully produced 1981 TV mini-series that never ages.
This 1981 Australian TV mini-series was shown on PBS' Masterpiece Theater back in the 80s and was an instant favorite of ours. We had recorded it on VHS tape back then, but over 40 years the tape eventually went bad and we thought we had lost "A Town Like Alice" forever. This newly-released DVD version is a blessing. The Neville Shute tale of a woman whose tragic experience as a POW of the Japanese in Malaya led her to meet a man she would fall in love with is beautifully directed and acted. Helen Morse, Bryan Brown and Gordon Jackson are perfectly cast in this tender and uplifting love story. We were especially pleased that this Australian-made disk worked on our DVD player. It is a film that bears repeat viewings.

Great bargain for a timeless recording
This CBS Masterworks CD of the legendary Leonard Bernstein conducting Aaron Copland's greatest pieces is simply wonderful. The most familiar of Copland's works is represented on this CD, including "Appalachian Spring", "Rodeo", and "Fanfare for the Common Man." It's the best of the best.

Spizer does it again
Bruce Spizer once again covers all the bases with this remarkable volume on the American Beatles records not covered in his previous books. It includes releases by Capitol in the 1980s and 1990s as well as the Mobile Fidelity releases from 1982. Lots of exhausting detail and color photos make this book a must-have.
